Vision Statement
Since 1979, the UCLA Multicampus Program in Geriatrics and Gerontology (MPGMG) has trained physicians, nurses, and other health professionals to provide exemplary care to older persons. Excellence in geriatric care requires a cadre of health professional geriatric champions. To this end, the MPGMG created the annual Leadership and Management in Geriatrics conference.
History
In 2000, the California State-funded Academic Geriatric Resource Program awarded a grant to the California Geriatric Education Center to develop and implement a conference on management and leadership skills for health professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses in the discipline of geriatrics. The Planning Committee, under the leadership of Dan Osterweil, MD, CMD, created the Geriatric Services Management Training (GSMT), which was presented in October 2002. GSMT was later renamed Leadership and Management in Geriatrics (LMG). Since that time, we have trained more than 125 health professionals, keeping the enrollment small in order to maintain a high level if faculty/participant interaction. SCAN Health Plan has provided sponsorship for LMG since 2006.
