Modules - Pain Screening

ABOUT THIS TRAINING MODULE

This training module presents instructions and tools for screening nursing home residents for chronic pain. It starts with a list of learning objectives, followed by an overview of the problem--inadequate pain detection--and the solution--start with pain screenings. Click here to read the overview.

In the Pain Screening section, we describe how to conduct pain screenings, the first step in a series of tasks that lead to better pain control and quality of life for residents. The tasks described here all fall within the work domain of nurses and nurse aides; in other words, you have the power to make a difference in the lives of your residents.

In the Next Steps section, we discuss follow-up care for residents who report chronic pain.

To scroll from page to page, use the "next" button at the bottom of each page or the "forward" button on your top navigation bar.

How long will it take to read through this "how to" portion of the module? About 15-20 minutes. Not enough time now for the task? Then print the module in full, or just the pages you select, so that you can browse through them at your leisure:

Elsewhere in this module--Next Steps, Links, FAQs, and Related Studies--we provide guidance and referrals to other resources to help you accomplish the pain management steps that follow screening.

And via our Discussion Board you can chat with other healthcare providers about the topic.
